Mangalore.Aug:21:Based on the credible intelligence, the officers of DRI Mangalore seized 16.990 tons red sanders valued at Rs. 6,79,60,000/- (as per the prevailing market value for export) from a container No. GESU 3039340 at NMPT, Mangalore. The said container was at first instance loaded to per vessel M.V. Tiger Mango V.130 and was exported by declaring the goods as ‘Mysore Detergent Cake’ destined for Sharjah and that the said ship sailed out on 09.08.2014 from New Mangalore Port to Colombo Port via Goa port
Based on the specific
intelligence about concealment of contraband goods in the said container,
the same was called back from Colombo port. The said container was not
offloaded at Colombo as per instruction of DRI and was kept on board the vessel.
The same vessel arrived at New Mangalore Port on 18.08.2014 and off loaded
the container today, ie, 20.8.2014.
On detailed examination, it
was found that the goods already stuffed by the exporter initially was
substituted with red sanders at some place near to Bangalore without tampering
the seals affixed by the central excise department.
DRI arrested Sri
Samuel Aruldoss, Managing Director of M/s Beracha Exim Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore,
the exporter and Sri Ganesh Kumar, Driver of the Truck bearing Regn. No.
KA 19B 7426 which transported the said container from Bangalore to Mangalore
port. Investigation are also initiated to find out the entire racket who
indulged the smuggling and also helped the exporter from Mangalore/ Bangalore
side.
Red Sanders Wood in any form
is prohibited for export in terms of the prevalent Foreign Trade Policy.
Therefore the entire goods were seized and kept in the custody of DRI
